Description

The client invites nominations and applications for a Dean to lead the client Libraries. The Dean will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer of the library system, advancing existing strengths to support the university’s broader goals and to strengthen the institution’s position as a leading public research university. The role will provide overall direction for library operations across multiple campuses, with a strong emphasis on innovation, academic excellence, collaboration, and fundraising.

Key responsibilities include setting strategic direction; advancing teaching, learning, and research support services; overseeing collections and services, outreach, and related initiatives; and managing library operations such as budgeting, facilities, and the adoption of new technologies. The Dean will recruit, develop, and retain library faculty and staff and will cultivate an organizational culture focused on excellence. The position also requires proactive leadership in fundraising and external engagement, working in partnership with university advancement and other stakeholders to cultivate donors and partners.

The role requires an earned terminal degree in library and information science or a closely related field, along with substantial administrative experience in an academic or research library. Candidates should demonstrate a forward-thinking vision for the evolving roles of major research libraries, a strong commitment to student and faculty success and research impact, and proven ability in fundraising and external resource development. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong organizational and management capabilities for complex, multi-faceted initiatives, and a record of scholarly, professional, or creative accomplishments suitable for a senior library faculty appointment are also expected.
