The client seeks a visionary, collaborative, and entrepreneurial leader to serve as Dean of its School of Music. The Dean will shape the future of music performance, scholarship, and professional practice by fostering creative and scholarly excellence within the context of a world-class research university. The role is designed to lead a diverse academic community that values musical styles and careers across performance and scholarship.
The Dean will guide the school at a pivotal moment, joining a community positioned to build on established strengths as it moves forward into its next era. Responsibilities include recruiting, developing, and retaining world-class faculty and staff; strengthening a culture grounded in shared governance and collegial collaboration; and enhancing operational structures and processes so teaching and learning can occur fairly and effectively. The Dean will also create opportunities for strategic partnerships across disciplines and departments within the school, with other university units, and with surrounding communities through meaningful outreach.
To support long-term sustainability, the Dean will act as an entrepreneurial financial leader, developing new resources through programmatic initiatives and fundraising efforts while allocating existing resources strategically. The position is expected to include active engagement with internal and external stakeholders to advance the school’s mission and strengthen its impact.
