Description

The client is seeking a Dean of the Faculty of Law for the Civil Law Section. The role provides academic, strategic, and administrative leadership, reporting to the provost and vice-president, academic affairs. The dean will help strengthen the section’s influence and consolidates its role in the Francophone legal community through teaching, research, and community involvement, supporting a collegial, inclusive, and bilingual environment.

Key responsibilities include defining and implementing a unifying vision aligned with broader institutional and faculty strategic orientations; fostering cohesion and collaboration among professors, staff, and students; and strengthening linkages with legal, political, and institutional circles, particularly in Canada’s capital region. The dean will ensure the quality and vitality of undergraduate and graduate programs, promote innovative bilingual teaching approaches for multi-jurisdictional and multilingual practice, and support student recruitment, retention, and success, especially at the graduate level.

The dean will oversee research and outreach efforts, including implementation of a strategic research plan focused on interdisciplinarity, knowledge mobilization, partnership development, and research with high social impact. The role also includes building an environment that encourages inclusive, interdisciplinary, and socially committed research; supporting student participation and recognition in research projects; and managing human, financial, and material resources with rigor, transparency, and equity, while continuing to modernize governance and collaborative practices through a period of transformation.
