the client seeks a strategic, collaborative, and visionary leader for the role of Dean of a school of architecture and design. The Dean will report to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and will lead a state design-focused school within an R1 university, serving as a statewide leader and resource for architecture and design education, research and creative activity, and collaboration within the university and beyond.
The Dean will guide the school with a clear strategic vision and a strong culture of collaboration across the school, campus, and community. Key responsibilities include working with faculty, staff, students, and professional partners to develop the school’s future vision; promote a unified and visible identity; elevate research and creative activity contributions within the school and university; support and mentor faculty and staff; advance the school’s mission related to student access and support; and manage and strengthen financial resources.
The ideal candidate is expected to demonstrate energetic, collaborative leadership that builds trust with faculty, students, and staff, and to show appreciation for the school’s disciplines, programs, and facilities while partnering effectively with colleagues across the university. The role also involves maintaining and strengthening relationships externally with alumni, donors, and industry, and requiring a record of scholarly achievement in research and/or practice consistent with appointment as a tenured full professor. the client has engaged a national executive search firm to assist with the recruitment, with application review beginning immediately and continuing until the search is completed.
