The client seeks an inspiring, visionary, and strategic scholar-administrator to serve as Dean of the School of Physical Sciences. The Dean will provide chief academic and administrative leadership for a school that encompasses four departments: Chemistry, Earth System Science, Mathematics, and Physics & Astronomy, along with affiliated research centers. Working in collaboration with campus leadership, the Dean is expected to advance teaching, research, and service, strengthen interdisciplinary partnerships, and build connections with industry, alumni, and philanthropic partners.
The Dean will be responsible for strategic vision and oversight across the School, including supporting faculty recruitment, retention, and professional development. The role will also ensure a dynamic and inclusive learning environment for students and will champion inclusive excellence in alignment with the School’s mission. Additionally, the Dean will provide budgetary and operational management, guiding sustainable growth and supporting national leadership in discovery and innovation.
Candidates should hold a PhD (or international equivalent) and demonstrate a distinguished record of scholarship in the physical sciences. The client is looking for proven leadership in research-intensive environments, with experience such as department chair, program director, dean, associate dean, or comparable international roles. Preferred fit includes experience advancing interdisciplinary educational and research initiatives; demonstrating ability to secure funding and generate resources; a strong commitment to inclusive excellence and professional development; experience contributing to and leading strategic planning; and experience managing budgets while working with school administration and central budget processes to develop and forecast future financial plans.
