the client invites applications and nominations for the role of Dean of the College of Graduate Studies. the position seeks an experienced, dynamic leader to set a strategic vision for graduate education, support the growth of graduate programs, and strengthen collaborative partnerships with academic units across the institution.
the College of Graduate Studies advocates for postbaccalaureate education and training, helping mobilize resources to support graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. it monitors and analyzes emerging trends and changes in graduate education and postdoctoral training, and provides support and guidance for university partners while maintaining the academic values of graduate programs that contribute to community, state, national, and global well-being. the dean provides overall vision and leadership to define and fulfill the college’s missions and to advance the university’s goals across teaching, research, and service, working across disciplines with administrators, faculty, staff, and community leaders to champion high-quality academic programs and lead development of new degree programs.
the dean reports to the senior vice provost and oversees administrative, operational, academic, financial, and personnel matters for the college, with direct support from senior leadership and functional roles including associates for student services, admissions and funding, curriculum and interdisciplinary studies, thesis and dissertation, a director for postdoctoral affairs, communications, an executive assistant, and an associate director for college IT infrastructure. required qualifications include a terminal degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution; demonstrated scholarly and professional achievement to merit graduate faculty appointment at the rank of a tenured professor in the discipline; strong leadership, organizational, and managerial skills to oversee a large unit, manage budgets, foster collaborations, and lead toward the college’s goals; and significant experience working directly with graduate students through teaching, mentoring, and/or supervision, with an understanding of their unique support needs.
