The client seeks a Dean to serve as the chief academic officer for an osteopathic medical college. The role provides leadership for academic and clinical program development, supporting compassionate, patient-centered osteopathic medical education guided by a holistic philosophy. The Dean oversees the integration of foundational and clinical sciences, promotes rigorous and interactive teaching approaches with early clinical exposure, and helps ensure the curriculum supports clinical reasoning and patient care skills.
Key responsibilities include planning, directing, coordinating, and evaluating all academic activities and assessments to implement the client’s mission and maintain accreditation compliance. The Dean leads self-study and other annual and mid-cycle reporting processes, fosters interdisciplinary education, and coordinates with university support services to meet the college’s needs. The Dean also plays a central role in recruiting and retaining a high-quality faculty, supports budget and fiscal viability efforts, and collaborates with admissions leadership to admit a qualified and competitive student class.
The Dean manages the recruitment and maintenance of clinical rotations for advanced-year students, oversees college finances including capital, salary, and operating budgets related to academic departments, graduate medical education, and clinic operations, and sustains a productive research and scholarly activity plan. The Dean unites and inspires faculty, staff, preceptors, and students around the college’s mission and goals, establishes short- and long-range plans and procedures, and represents the college to external audiences, while reporting through senior university leadership for operational and strategic matters.
