the client is seeking a Controller for its insurance platform. The Controller will help build and shape the financial foundation of a rapidly growing organization by overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. This highly visible role focuses on establishing the processes, systems, and governance needed to support continued expansion and may influence the organization’s growth trajectory.
Key responsibilities include overseeing accounting and payroll systems across the holding company and its portfolio companies, managing banking relationships, cash flow, payroll processing, and employee benefits, and leading monthly and annual close activities. The role will drive financial integration for newly acquired companies, including support for converting financials where needed, and will contribute to implementing consolidated financial reporting and systems that support the broader rollup strategy. The Controller will also partner with external consultants on areas such as revenue recognition, purchase accounting, audits, and tax preparation, while ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and GAAP.
The Controller will develop and refine accounting policies and procedures, review and implement internal controls, and oversee internal audits to ensure compliance and operational efficiency. The role also involves designing and maintaining the accounting team structure, leading continuous improvement initiatives, and mentoring and managing the accounting team. Required qualifications include 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience with deep insurance accounting and P&C financial operations experience, plus prior experience in an insurance agency environment and consolidation of financial data across multiple entities; a strong understanding of trust accounting and restricted cash is also expected. Additional expectations include experience with independent agents and agency operational dynamics, relevant accounting systems used in independent insurance agencies, and a bachelor’s degree; a CPA is preferred.
