the client is seeking a controller for its Saint John office to provide wide-ranging financial leadership, services, and support for the client and related companies. This role is a key member of the finance team and supports strategic financial planning by using reporting and analytical methods to communicate financial performance and insights. The controller will also help enhance accounting systems and optimize finance department processes.
Responsibilities include planning, preparing, and executing monthly consolidated and non-consolidated financial statements and schedules, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis for multiple companies and presenting results to senior leadership. The role will coordinate with operational finance teams to prepare consolidated financial reports and analysis, develop annual budgets and related management reporting, and assist with annual management and shareholder reporting. Additional duties include managing day-to-day transactional processing (such as billing and cash forecasting), supporting internal and external audit processes, developing and implementing accounting and reporting policies and standards, and maintaining data integrity while standardizing financial information.
Qualifications include a Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation and progressive accounting experience after CPA completion. The role requires proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and presentation skills to deliver complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences. Supervisory or mentoring experience is considered an asset, alongside the ability to coach and develop junior team members, collaborate with senior leadership, and support process improvement initiatives across the accounting function and cross-functional groups.
