Description

The client is seeking a Community Outreach Coordinator to help expand the ReLeaf program’s community impact. Working under the supervision of the Tree Equity Manager, this role develops and strengthens community partnerships by engaging internal and external stakeholders to advance educational and outreach outcomes focused on restoring, enhancing, and protecting the tree canopy in Allegheny County, with particular attention to low-canopy, justice-seeking communities. The position is expected to support a mission-driven approach to improving the urban natural environment through relationship-building and community engagement.

Key responsibilities include motivating and directing stakeholders involved in ReLeaf planning, community surveys, tree plantings, educational classes, and volunteer opportunities. The coordinator will assist in creating and collaborating on outreach materials, support initiatives such as community canvassing through door-knocking, and attend community meetings and events to increase visibility in targeted communities. The role also includes fielding community inquiries, collaborating with municipal officials and other public and private stakeholders, partnering to ensure service excellence and operational effectiveness across grant- and program-related activities, and contributing to strategies that engage communities with low canopy coverage to support tree planting and care.

The ideal candidate will have two or more years of professional and/or volunteer experience in community and stakeholder engagement, preferably in the environmental field, along with strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. This role is highly mobile and requires the ability to obtain a valid driver’s license within the first six months and maintain a clean driving record, as well as access to reliable transportation. Preferred strengths include an understanding of equitable engagement and racial equity best practices, a commitment to actively engaging historically marginalized populations, experience using data-driven decision-making and data management tools (such as GIS platforms), and the ability to remain calm and composed under pressure during events.
