Description

Our client is a mission-driven travel company that uses tour programs, guidebooks, and public-facing storytelling to inspire cultural understanding and connection. The Communications and Social Media Director role will steward and elevate the public voice of the company’s founder, partnering closely with internal stakeholders to ensure the founder’s perspectives on travel and the company’s values are communicated consistently and authentically across channels.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Brand Marketing and Customer Experience, this highly collaborative position combines communications advising with hands-on social media execution. The role involves serving as a trusted advisor to the founder on public messaging and external communications; translating the founder’s voice and ideas into clear, compelling content across formats; developing proactive media strategies and building relationships with key journalists, producers, and media partners; and vetting, planning, and supporting media appearances and interviews. It also includes creating and curating content for the founder’s personal social channels, with a primary focus on a leading platform and a secondary presence elsewhere, while collaborating with the marketing and social media teams to maintain alignment and support daily community moderation.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished communications professional with strong judgment and the maturity to advise a high-profile founder while also acting as a day-to-day content creator in the founder’s voice. They are an exceptional writer who can capture a distinctive personal tone and are comfortable conveying the founder’s openly held viewpoints. Requirements include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field, as well as ten or more years of experience in communications, public relations, or a closely related field at a director level, demonstrated success leading high-impact public relations campaigns, established media relationships, and strong writing, editing, and interpersonal skills with attention to detail. The role also expects proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and Adobe tools, along with familiarity with major social media platforms.
