The client is hiring a Commissioning Director for a direct hire role based onsite in Coppell, TX. The Director of Commissioning leads and supports teams responsible for ensuring building systems are designed, installed, and operated in alignment with owner operational requirements and the engineer’s design intent, engaging regularly with owners, representatives, contractors, engineers, and architects to deliver commissioning outcomes.
Key responsibilities include mentoring and developing commissioning professionals; collaborating to ensure requirements are defined, documented, and communicated; managing and distributing project information to commissioning agents and technicians; maintaining structured status tracking and reporting; ensuring team communications with clients and partners are properly documented; identifying scope or performance gaps and driving corrective actions; developing and negotiating commissioning fee proposals; overseeing KPIs and performance metrics; providing input on commissioning standards and best practices; and supporting business development through interviews and pursuit of opportunities with existing and new clients. The role also leads and advances commissioning across assigned projects and may participate in owner training activities alongside the commissioning provider, while upholding organizational principles and client-focused core values.
Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, along with 8+ years of experience in commissioning or related building construction experience involving mechanical, plumbing, automatic temperature control systems, and/or testing, adjusting, and balancing. The role requires comprehensive knowledge of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, controls, and building enclosure) and a strong understanding of the commercial construction process, plus strong leadership, communication, and detail-oriented multitasking abilities. Commissioning certification may be required, proficiency with cloud-based commissioning software is expected, and preferred qualifications may include Registered Engineering Intern (EI) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure. Travel of 25%–40% to job sites and office locations is expected.
