The client, a values-driven charity organization dedicated to supporting and advocating for adults with intellectual disabilities, is seeking a Chairperson for their Human Rights Committee. The Chairperson will lead a dedicated committee responsible for promoting and safeguarding the human rights of the people they support. This vital governance role involves ensuring services and practices align with best practices in rights-based support and advocacy.
The ideal candidate for this volunteer position will demonstrate a strong commitment to human rights, equity, and social justice. They should have lived experience with disability, family members, or supporters of individuals with disabilities, as well as experience in leadership or governance, preferably in the disability, health, or community services sectors. Knowledge of human rights legislation and advocacy principles, as well as a relevant education or professional background in areas such as law, social work, disability support, health, or human services, is desirable but not essential.
