the client seeks an experienced and collaborative Chief People Officer (CPO) to oversee all aspects of the human resources function and lead the institution’s DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access) strategies. The CPO serves as a senior executive and trusted advisor to the organization’s chief executive, reporting to that role. This position is responsible for attracting, retaining, advancing, and supporting a broadly diverse workforce while promoting a respectful and equitable workplace culture aligned with the organization’s core values.
Key responsibilities include overseeing, planning, and managing all human resources functions; providing strong leadership for the human resources team; and integrating DEIA into the organization’s people strategy, culture, governance, and operations. The CPO is expected to champion the development and leadership of a centralized DEIA approach, working across departments to incorporate equity into workforce planning, leadership accountability, employee experience, and institutional decision-making. The role also involves building effective relationships and influencing colleagues, managers, and senior leadership.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated leadership experience in a senior role, including leadership in DEIA strategy, and substantial experience in cultural institutions, higher education, or other nonprofit organizations. The role calls for a strong team-oriented approach, the ability to learn and adapt quickly, and excellent oral and written communication with attention to detail. The organization expects impeccable integrity, ethics, and professionalism, along with confidentiality and adherence to relevant conduct and workplace policies, including avoiding conflicts of interest. A master’s degree is strongly preferred, and the organization is an equal opportunity employer committed to inclusive consideration of qualified applicants.
