The client is seeking a Chief People Officer to serve as the chief architect of the organization’s talent strategy, culture, and employee experience. This role will be a critical member of the Executive Leadership Team and will report directly to the CEO, with responsibility for building a People function that combines strong organizational support with a mandate for innovation. The organization is a large, multi-location education provider operating across three boroughs and supporting thousands of students and families.
The Chief People Officer will own all aspects of the People function, including talent acquisition and workforce planning; talent development and performance management; organizational effectiveness and change leadership; total rewards; employee and labor relations; HR operations, governance, compliance, and risk management; and equity and belonging. This enterprise-level mandate is expected to require both strategic leadership and operational excellence, ensuring that people strategy scales in step with organizational growth and ambition. The CPO will partner closely with other senior executives to support organizational performance and long-term impact.
To succeed, the Chief People Officer should be able to strengthen and modernize core People systems and processes while improving stability and clarity across the function. The role is expected to help attract, develop, and retain exceptional people across both school-based and central office roles, with an emphasis on building leadership pipelines and strengthening organizational culture. The client expects the CPO to lead this work collaboratively, in alignment with an invested and aligned executive team.
