The client is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join its leadership team. The COO will work closely with the Director to develop and implement operational and financial strategies aligned with the institution’s mission and vision, helping guide day-to-day effectiveness and long-term success and growth.
The COO will provide strategic leadership and oversight of museum operations, including planning, finance, information technology, earned income, security, facilities, and the implementation of policies. Responsibilities also include translating the strategic plan into actionable projects with budgets, assigned staff, and resources; assessing departmental functions and processes to improve efficiency and alignment with institutional best practices; and leading long-term strategic and financial planning while continually monitoring financial performance.
In partnership with the Director of Human Resources, the COO will help ensure effective human resource policies and operations at the highest ethical standard, and will contribute to strategic planning, master site planning, policymaking, and organizational management. The role involves coordinating legal oversight in employment and other institutional matters, fostering a culture of inclusion through respectful communication and cooperation, and providing management acumen to guide cross-functional teams; the ideal candidate will typically have an advanced degree in a relevant field and 5 to 7 years of senior-level experience in museum management or a related area, with strong knowledge of museum operations and financial management principles, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
