The client is seeking a Chief Operating Officer to serve as an executive leader responsible for day-to-day operational and administrative functions, reporting to the Executive Director. In this role, you will provide leadership and oversight across project management, people management, project finance, marketing, and IT, helping to align operational execution with the organization’s strategic direction.
Key responsibilities include acting as an executive producer on major projects by managing production and programming teams, setting project goals and tracking progress, managing budgets to deliver on time and within scope, and identifying risks with mitigation strategies. You will also provide leadership and mentorship to a team of direct reports, including implementing performance evaluation processes with KPI-driven goals, conducting performance reviews, and supporting HR administration such as policies and recruitment. Additionally, you will oversee daily business operations, develop and implement strategic and operational plans, maintain fiscal responsibility with transparent reporting, and ensure appropriate internal controls and compliant financial practices.
The client expects strong financial acumen and experience developing strategic and operational budgets, along with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills in English. You should demonstrate decision-making and problem-solving ability, strong time management and attention to detail, and the capacity to work independently while also leading collaboratively. Relevant experience in operations and/or leadership and people management is preferred, with proven experience in the Canadian nonprofit sector; additional assets may include experience in performing arts or music production and conference management, a project management designation or equivalent, and fundraising experience.
