The client is seeking a collaborative, strategic, and experienced Chief Operating Officer to help build organizational capacity and advance an ambitious new chapter of conservation impact. Based in san francisco, the role operates within a hybrid environment and will help translate vision into coordinated action and sustained results across The client’s conservation work focused on coast redwood and giant sequoia ecosystems.
Reporting to the President & CEO, the COO will serve as a trusted strategic partner and deputy, acting as a force multiplier for the CEO and executive team when appropriate. This executive role will directly oversee Operations, Information Technology, and People & Culture, while influencing priorities and execution across an approximately 80-person organization. The COO will establish planning disciplines, project-management practices, communications, accountability, and a supportive culture that enables teams to deliver high-quality work, particularly through complex, multidisciplinary efforts.
Key responsibilities include advising on organizational risks and tradeoffs, translating strategic direction into clear operational frameworks, project plans, and measurable outcomes, and leading integrated, organization-wide planning. The ideal candidate is a systems thinker who can listen, build trust and buy-in, clarify purpose, remove roadblocks, and sustain momentum while preserving collaboration, humanity, and joy.
