The client is seeking a Chief Operating Officer who will serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and the incoming Chief Medical Officer, translating organizational vision into operational reality. This is a strategy-weighted, enterprise role within a distributed triad leadership model, emphasizing partnership rather than command-and-control. The COO is expected to maintain an enterprise-wide view of organizational architecture and alignment, serving as the connective tissue between strategy and execution across all levels.
Key responsibilities include building and sustaining enterprise operational strategy aligned with a multi-year transformation initiative, creating a performance management architecture that links board-level direction to frontline execution, and integrating cross-functional systems across care coordination, workforce, quality, compliance, and facilities. The COO will also develop and maintain strategic relationships with health system partners, managed care organizations, and community stakeholders, while reinforcing a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and innovation grounded in observable, teachable behaviors. Leadership presence is expected in both governance and community settings, communicating consistently and building credibility with diverse audiences.
The preferred candidate will have experience building from scratch and owning initiatives, departments, or transformations where outcomes were directly accountable. They should think in systems, demonstrate organizational design and performance framework fluency, and apply change management in practical, high-pressure environments. The role calls for someone who is comfortable representing the organization to a board composed significantly of consumers (patients or community members) and engaging with community advisory conversations, building trust with skeptical stakeholders through consistent, constructive pushback and clear leadership.
