The client seeks a Chief of Development to lead, direct, and coordinate fundraising strategies and activities that advance the museum’s mission. The role reports to the Executive Director and will work with a team of three full-time staff and two consultants. The Chief of Development is expected to manage museum fundraising broadly, including setting direction and coordinating day-to-day development efforts.
Responsibilities include leading campaign fundraising for a $30mm comprehensive campaign, partnering with the board of directors on fundraising, and overseeing individual major gifts, annual fundraising (including direct mail), corporate fundraising and engagement, government fundraising, and memberships. The role will also own donor communications and help plan and execute donor cultivation events to strengthen relationships and support long-term donor growth.
The ideal candidate is values-aligned and able to bring strategic clarity and focus to a development program that is prepared to scale. As a nationally significant cultural institution, the client will benefit from leadership that can build upon an engaged board, a growing base of supporters, and existing momentum while helping establish the museum as an anchor in its community. Prioritized qualities include strong fundraising leadership, coordination across fundraising channels, and the ability to motivate both internal staff and external consultants toward shared development goals.
