Description

The client is seeking a visible, process-focused, relationship-centered Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for a mission-driven, not-for-profit, full-service regional critical access hospital serving southwest Wyoming. The CMO will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and provide the senior clinical voice, partnering across Quality, Nursing, Risk Management, and the medical staff. This leader will enhance quality outcomes, strengthen medical staff processes, and improve patient flow and clinical efficiency while fostering a culture of equity, respect, and teamwork.

The CMO will act as the primary liaison between administration and the medical staff, ensuring consistent communication and alignment across clinical operations, governance, and performance improvement. The role requires pragmatic, emotionally intelligent, patient-focused leadership grounded in compassionate, person-centered care and a strong commitment to the hospital’s mission. It is expected that the CMO will bring credibility, humility, and operational understanding to support a small, community-focused setting with a deeply invested medical staff and leadership team.

Qualifications include a minimum of 7–10 years of progressive physician leadership experience in a hospital or health system, and an MD or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine with eligibility for licensure in Wyoming. The ideal candidate demonstrates success in quality, safety, medical staff leadership, and clinical governance, with rural or community-based hospital experience strongly preferred. Additional expectations include operational understanding across inpatient, outpatient, and procedural areas; board certification in a clinical discipline (active or prior acceptable); and a servant-leader approach characterized by humility, approachability, teamwork, fairness and consistency in peer review and governance interactions, and strong alignment with the community and mission.
