Description

The client is seeking a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for a not-for-profit, full-service regional critical access hospital, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The CMO will serve as the senior clinical voice for the hospital, partnering across Quality, Nursing, Risk Management, and the medical staff. Key priorities include improving quality outcomes, strengthening medical staff processes, enhancing patient flow, and increasing clinical efficiency, while fostering a culture grounded in equity, respect, and teamwork. The CMO will act as the primary liaison between administration and the medical staff to support consistent communication and alignment across clinical operations, governance, and performance improvement.

The ideal candidate is a physician leader with progressive experience in a hospital or health system, along with an MD or DO background and eligibility for licensure in the State of Wyoming. The role emphasizes proven success in quality, safety, medical staff leadership, and clinical governance. Experience supporting rural or community-based hospitals is strongly preferred, and the CMO should have an operational understanding of workflows across inpatient, outpatient, and procedural areas. The client also seeks a servant leader with humility, emotional intelligence, and a patient-focused approach, demonstrating fairness and consistency in peer review, governance, and interpersonal interactions.

Board certification in a clinical discipline is required (active or prior certification acceptable), and the candidate should demonstrate commitment to the hospital’s mission and community. The hospital is a community-focused organization serving a population of more than 43,000 and includes a dedicated medical staff and a range of clinical services and specialties. The CMO will support a mission-driven leadership team and is expected to help strengthen a culture of compassionate, person-centered care in a close-knit environment in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
