The client is seeking a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for a not-for-profit, full-service regional critical access hospital serving southwest Wyoming. This physician executive role is visible, process-focused, and relationship-centered, with a mission of compassionate, person-centered care. The CMO will enhance quality outcomes, strengthen medical staff processes, improve patient flow and clinical efficiency, and foster a culture of equity, respect, and teamwork.
The CMO reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and partners with Quality, Nursing, Risk Management, and the medical staff. The role serves as the senior clinical voice and primary liaison between administration and the medical staff, supporting consistent communication and alignment across clinical operations, governance, and performance improvement. The incoming CMO is expected to bring credibility, humility, and operational understanding to a small, community-focused environment with a deeply invested medical staff and leadership team.
Required qualifications include a Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), eligibility for licensure in Wyoming, demonstrated success in quality and safety, medical staff leadership, and clinical governance, and board certification in a clinical discipline (active or prior certification acceptable). Preferred qualifications include progressive physician leadership experience (typically in the range of 7–10 years) and experience with rural or community-based hospitals, along with operational understanding of workflows across inpatient, outpatient, and procedural areas. The ideal candidate will be a servant leader who is team-oriented, approachable, fair and consistent in peer review and governance interactions, loyal to the mission and community, and comfortable with small-town, relationship-driven dynamics.
