The client is seeking a physician leader to serve as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to transform healthcare delivery across a growing network of urgent care and primary care locations. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and the private equity board, the CMO will lead clinical operations and oversight for all clinics, including clinical team recruitment, retention, and development, while partnering with internal executives, local clinical leaders, providers, and senior operations leaders to drive organizational alignment.
The CMO will ensure an effective organizational structure (people, processes, systems) is in place so providers practice at the top of their license, and will be responsible for achieving profitable growth, clinical excellence, service standards, and regulatory compliance. This role will work with the leadership team on strategic initiatives, new program development, and care delivery standardization, and will oversee a physician and advanced practice provider workforce to maintain consistent standards of clinical care, productivity, and patient outcomes across more than 50 clinic locations.
The CMO will lead the development of clinical governance frameworks, quality measurement systems, and provider engagement initiatives that support scalable growth. Required qualifications include an MD or DO degree, completion of postgraduate medical education in an ACGME-approved residency program in a medical specialty, and current Board Certification, along with active medical licensure or eligibility in Illinois and Indiana. The role also calls for prior experience as a chief/senior physician executive with demonstrated leadership overseeing physicians and advanced practice providers, strong understanding of healthcare economics and clinical performance management, and experience in urgent care, retail medicine, or large ambulatory care networks (leadership experience in high-growth or private equity–backed healthcare organizations is preferred).
