the client seeks a growth-minded, collaborative, and mission-driven Chief Marketing and Growth Officer (CMGO) to join its senior leadership team. This role reports directly to the President and acts as a strategic partner across the organization to build a shared culture of marketing and sales that deepens audience engagement, grows revenue, and amplifies the museum’s mission. It combines big-picture leadership with hands-on execution, with an emphasis on re-engaging local audiences and attracting new and diverse visitors.
A central focus is driving earned revenue and visitorship. The CMGO will be responsible for growing ticket sales, membership, retail performance, and events revenue, and will partner with the Chief Development Officer to support philanthropic growth. The role will oversee the museum’s marketing, visitor services, and retail team, while also managing outside vendors such as designers, public relations firms, and digital specialists. The CMGO will collaborate closely with senior leaders, including the President and Chief of Staff, and with colleagues working on digital projects and development integration to support a cohesive, organization-wide approach to engagement.
The ideal candidate will bring a passion for the mission, curiosity about evolving urban audiences and tourism dynamics, and an entrepreneurial mindset that turns compelling stories into measurable outcomes. Core responsibilities include developing marketing strategies to drive revenue streams, creating approaches to encourage repeat visits and membership among New York City residents, identifying and cultivating target audiences (including local residents, tourists, school and college groups, repeat visitors, members, donors, and media), and leveraging existing customer relationship management and data capabilities to deliver segmented, proactive outreach and conversions. The CMGO will also co-create performance indicators with leadership to reflect seasonal needs and realistic growth targets, including metrics tied to repeat visitation, membership growth, local engagement, and revenue from events and public tours.
