Description

The client is seeking a dynamic, visionary, and strategic leader to serve as Chief Legal Advocacy Officer (CLAO). This executive leadership role shapes and advances the client’s litigation, policy, and public education strategies in service of LGBTQ+ communities and everyone living with HIV, while also strengthening organizational systems, infrastructure, and alignment with broader movement goals.

As the senior-most leader of the Legal Department, the CLAO will guide a mission-driven team of civil rights attorneys, policy advocates, and program staff across multiple practice areas. The CLAO will serve on the Executive Team and provide direct leadership accountability for the department’s vision, performance, and long-term impact, collaborating closely to ensure strategies and programs reflect the client’s mission, values, and commitment to DEIB.

The ideal candidate will bring executive leadership and organizational acumen, along with credible legal and movement expertise, and strong systems design capabilities. The role emphasizes a collaborative leadership style rooted in emotional intelligence and a proactive approach to counteracting bias and its compounding effects, consistent with an intersectional understanding of discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and HIV status, as well as related factors.
