Description

The client seeks an experienced, strategic, hands-on Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) to lead and direct the Human Resources office. The CHRO will ensure HR policies and systems support the community, and will help build an organizational culture grounded in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. This role leads employee relations and contributes to benefits plan design and selection, while also participating in change management initiatives and shaping recruitment and retention strategy.

The CHRO will play a key role in ensuring human resource policies and practices comply with applicable federal and state employment laws. The position is expected to benchmark HR practices against peer organizations and align them with the organization’s mission and vision, while developing and implementing systems and processes to support compliance across the workforce. The CHRO will also help foster an environment that supports teaching and learning by driving ongoing culture-building work, including intentional efforts to transform organizational culture.

The ideal candidate is expected to have a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field, along with at least fifteen years of strategic human resource leadership experience, including leading an HR team. Strong working knowledge of employment laws and risk mitigation best practices is required, as is demonstrated proficiency with a human capital management system such as Ceridian Dayforce or other comparable platforms, with experience maximizing functionality and leading implementations. Preferred qualifications include commitment to the organization’s shared values, senior-level HR certification (such as SPHR or SHRM-SCP), strong employment law expertise, and bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish; the role also requires exceptional interpersonal, problem-solving, mentoring, confidentiality, and equity-centered skills, with the ability to gain trust across multiple constituencies and manage projects from idea through outcome.
