the client is seeking an accomplished, strategic, and hands-on human resources leader for the role of Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). This is an opportunity to shape the future of HR across a dynamic, mission-driven organization, serving as a key strategic partner to senior leadership. The CHRO will be expected to provide vision and direction while also executing day-to-day HR initiatives that strengthen organizational culture, support staff development, and improve HR effectiveness.
Reporting to the COO, the CHRO will lead the development and implementation of HR initiatives aligned with the organization’s mission and objectives. Core responsibilities include modernizing HR systems and leveraging technology to streamline processes related to talent acquisition and performance management, advancing workforce development and performance efforts that support professional growth, and strengthening labor relations and negotiation strategies for a workforce that includes both unionized and non-union staff. The CHRO will also partner with leaders across diverse programs to build a cohesive and collaborative culture, balancing strategic planning with hands-on execution.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field, with a master’s degree preferred. At least 10 years of progressive HR experience is expected, with significant leadership experience in the education or non-profit sector preferred. The role requires strong strategic thinking, leadership, and communication skills, along with comprehensive knowledge of core HR functions including talent management, compensation, benefits, and compliance. Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead organizational change is required, and HR certification (such as SPHR or SHRM-SCP) is highly desirable.
