The client is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to serve as the organization’s senior financial leader and strategic advisor in partnership with the President & CEO and the Board of Trustees. The CFO will be responsible for financial stewardship and for fortifying and modernizing the organization’s financial infrastructure to support sustainable growth and long-term mission impact, including establishing systems, processes, controls, and finance team capabilities.
Key responsibilities include serving as a trusted thought partner to executive leadership through financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic planning; assessing, strengthening, and continuously improving financial systems, controls, policies, procedures, reporting practices, and operational workflows; and leading accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cash flow management, treasury operations, and financial planning. The CFO will also ensure legal, regulatory, contractual, and nonprofit compliance across all financial functions, provide strategic oversight of the organization’s operating entity and affiliated foundation entity, and advise relevant board committees and leadership on financial governance and planning.
The role calls for demonstrated success leading financial transformation and modernization, with strong planning, forecasting, modeling, analytical, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on execution during periods of change, ambiguity, growth, and transformation. The CFO should have exceptional communication and relationship-building abilities, a strong understanding of nonprofit funding structures and related funding models, and experience leading and developing high-performing finance teams. Minimum qualifications include an MBA, a Master’s degree, a CPA, a CMA, or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred, along with 12+ years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience, and demonstrated experience managing complex funding structures and leading organizational financial transformation; a CPA is strongly preferred and a CMA is desirable.
