Description

The client is seeking an experienced strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its executive leadership team. Reporting into and partnering closely with the Chief of Staff and Chief Executive Officer, the CFO will guide overall financial strategy and performance while overseeing core financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cash and treasury management, grant and restricted fund accounting, and the development and maintenance of financial systems. The CFO will ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable funder and regulatory requirements, while upholding high standards of accuracy and transparency in financial reporting.

The CFO will lead and oversee the monthly and year-end close process and be accountable for financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash/treasury management. Responsibilities include managing organization-wide budgeting and forecasting in partnership with department and program leaders, developing and executing multi-year financial planning and capital planning, and shaping reserve and investment strategy. The CFO will evaluate and lead improvements to financial systems, technology, and processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability as the organization grows, and provide strategy and oversight for grant and restricted fund accounting and related funder financial reporting. The CFO is expected to maintain strong working knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, restricted funding, and financial compliance obligations.

Additional responsibilities include presenting financial results, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to the Board of Directors and finance or audit oversight bodies, ensuring organization-wide GAAP and nonprofit accounting compliance, and overseeing audit readiness and the annual audit process. The CFO will develop and maintain financial policies, internal controls, and governance documentation, and participate in internal and external review processes related to audits, compliance, grants, and financial operations. The role also includes establishing enterprise risk management practices, serving as a primary contact for external auditors and key external partners on financial and treasury matters, partnering with executive leadership on financial modeling for new programs and funding strategies, and leading the Accounting Manager through mentorship and development to build a high-performing finance function while communicating complex financial information clearly.
