Description

The client is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to join its executive team and help build a modern life and health insurance company from the ground up. This role will serve as a principal advisor to the CEO, owning the end-to-end finance function and guiding the company’s financial strategy and future direction. The CFO is expected to lead decision support by translating unit economics into actionable insights, pressure-testing growth strategies, and partnering with the board and executive leadership to inform key choices.

Key responsibilities include owning statutory and GAAP financial reporting and running a disciplined month-end close, audit process, and control environment. The CFO will drive insurance tax strategy and ensure regulatory compliance, lead capital planning and solvency management, and advise on capital raises and capital deployment strategies. The role will also structure and evaluate reinsurance solutions to support growth and improve capital efficiency, establish the finance function’s structure (including cost allocation and internal controls), and define operating rhythms and governance for the finance organization.

The CFO will build the analytical foundation for growth, profitability, and capital allocation, including communicating the financial narrative to the board and stakeholders. The position includes overseeing the general account investment portfolio, managing the asset-liability management framework, and setting investment governance while managing relationships with internal and external asset managers. Candidates should have senior finance leadership experience in a life and health insurance environment, strong confidence in statutory reporting and capital requirements, proven experience with close/reporting/audit controls, and hands-on experience with insurance tax strategy and compliance; additional strengths may include fluency in reinsurance structuring and experience scaling finance systems, processes, and teams.
