The client seeks a Chief Financial Officer who will serve as the chief financial strategist and fiduciary leader, ensuring strong standards of stewardship, transparency, and long-term sustainability. The CFO will act as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Board, translating complex financial and investment information into clear insights that support decision-making and mission outcomes. This is a foundational, transformational role expected to help shape the next strategic plan (launching in May 2028) while leading, mentoring, and scaling a high-performing finance team.
Key responsibilities include leading multi-year financial strategy, long-range planning, and scenario modeling aligned to the client’s priorities and growth ambitions. The CFO will build organization-wide financial clarity and literacy, inspire shared ownership of financial health, and lead and develop the finance team, with the Controller accountable for day-to-day operations. The role also includes partnering with the client’s international finance leadership to align financial principles and governance, providing executive leadership for investment oversight and governance with the Board and relevant committees, and guiding periodic reviews of investment policy to support prudent, long-horizon fiduciary management.
The CFO will drive finance systems and process modernization, including a transition to Sage Intacct, and will maintain effective relationships with auditors, banks, investment managers, and insurers. The role requires maintaining an enterprise risk lens over internal controls, segregation of duties, and delegated authority, and ensuring adherence to applicable legal, tax, and reporting standards relevant to foundations, DAFs, and charitable assets. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, with a master’s in finance or business administration preferred, current CPA licensure preferred, and experience stewarding philanthropic or other entrusted assets; experience working with boards and board committees in nonprofit or mission-driven settings is also expected.
