We are seeking a hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join the executive leadership team of the client, a nonprofit focused on empowering individuals and families through behavioral health, housing, employment, and supportive services. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO will provide strategic and operational oversight of the organization’s financial functions across the client’s programs and multiple affiliated entities.
The CFO will serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO, executive leadership, and the Board on financial planning, organizational performance, risk management, and long-term sustainability. Responsibilities include developing and implementing financial strategies aligned with the organization’s mission and growth goals; leading annual budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and scenario planning; and presenting financial results, forecasts, and key performance indicators to executive leadership, the Finance Committee, and the Board. The role also directs accounting, payroll, treasury, budgeting, and financial reporting, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), while maintaining strong internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures, as well as managing cash, liquidity, banking relationships, and investment activities.
Additionally, the CFO will lead financial compliance, regulatory reporting, and fiduciary oversight, including serving as the primary liaison for external audits and financial reviews with independent auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory stakeholders. The CFO will oversee preparation and review of required regulatory submissions, including Form 990 and payroll tax filings, and will manage financial leadership across affiliated legal entities to ensure appropriate intercompany accounting, tax compliance, and governance practices. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of progressive financial leadership with significant responsibility for accounting, budgeting, and financial strategy, as well as 5+ years of senior-level leadership experience managing finance and accounting teams, demonstrated nonprofit financial management experience, deep GAAP and nonprofit accounting expertise, and a proven track record managing complex multi-entity structures and annual nonprofit audits and compliance. A current Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is highly preferred, along with strong analytical, strategic, communication, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to lead, mentor, and cultivate a collaborative, service-oriented finance team.
