Description

The client is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to serve as a senior leader and chief financial strategist, steward of assets, and operational leader for finance and administration. Reporting to the President & CEO, the CFO will help ensure the organization’s financial integrity, transparency, and operational excellence while guiding financial stewardship of charitable assets and funds.

The CFO will lead a mature, high-performing finance function and drive financial strategy, including overseeing investments and audits, managing financial systems and internal controls, and ensuring operations are efficient, secure, and aligned with the organization’s mission. Responsibilities include preparing and presenting financial statements, forecasts, and performance reporting in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards; leading the budgeting process; monitoring performance; and providing variance, trend, and scenario analyses. The role also involves ensuring accurate fund accounting across multiple fund types, managing investment consultant relationships, coordinating annual audits and compliance requirements in collaboration with external auditors, and delivering clear financial insights to the President & CEO, the board, and relevant committees and fund stakeholders.

Additional responsibilities include overseeing cash flow and liquidity management; supporting the acceptance, management, and disposition of non-cash charitable assets (such as real estate and other illiquid gifts) in alignment with organizational policies, including due diligence, valuation, risk mitigation, and timely realization or transfer of proceeds; and providing financial guidance to support grant and scholarship forecasting and budgeting. The CFO will also maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and operational systems, and will oversee relevant financial software and systems to ensure effective integration with donor, grantmaking, and reporting processes. The ideal candidate is a credentialed, experienced financial executive who can lead with integrity, advise senior leadership, and serve as a trusted partner to the President & CEO and board.
