The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will act as a strategic and operational financial leader during a transformative period for the client, a nonprofit organization in the San Francisco Bay Area. This organization is recognized for its comprehensive healthcare and support services for seniors and is best known for its pioneering work in the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) model. The CFO will contribute to the organization's modernization and scaling efforts while maintaining financial excellence. This entails working closely with the Executive Management Team (EMT) to strengthen financial processes and reestablish a solid foundation for growth.
The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 10 years in progressive financial leadership roles, with prior CFO experience essential. Experience in risk-bearing, managed care, or Medicare/Medi-Cal environments is crucial, alongside leading financial modernization in multi-entity organizations. The successful applicant will have expertise in M&A, partnerships, strategic expansions, financial modeling, and capital structures. A proven ability to work with boards of directors and present complex financial data clearly is required. Experience with affordable housing finance, HUD compliance, and navigating major organizational changes is also preferred. A CPA designation is strongly recommended, or alternatively, a robust foundation in financial accounting and controlling.
Educational qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field, with a Master's degree such as an MBA or MHA strongly preferred. The CFO must be a strategic thinker who is innovative and willing to take suitable risks. They should be adept at building consensus and making decisions essential to the organization's success, as well as fostering external partnerships with diverse community stakeholders. Critical competencies include financial strategy, decision support, analytics, accounting, finance, budgeting, and reimbursement knowledge within a complex healthcare delivery system. Familiarity with payor contracts and contracting strategies is desirable to drive the nonprofit's mission and community service focus.
