Description

The client seeks a transformative Chief Executive Officer to steward a compassionate medical respite care model and lead a mission-aligned organization through an institutional inflection point. This role will guide the organization as it builds its identity for the next generation, with a focus on healing and respite for the most underserved and overlooked. The CEO will lead an exceptionally committed team and serve as a visible values steward within an intentional residential community.

Responsibilities include leading and stewarding a nationally recognized model of compassionate medical respite care, the largest of its kind in Washington, DC, with more than 10,000 patient admissions since inception. The CEO will help define and deepen the organization’s identity as a post-founder institution while honoring the legacy of the founding community. The role also includes partnering with the board to strengthen governance capacity, building a high-functioning board–CEO relationship, and leading a deeply mission-aligned staff and residential community.

The ideal candidate will bring substantive nonprofit leadership experience, such as CEO, executive director, or senior executive experience within a nonprofit context, and will demonstrate strong personal mission alignment with values centered on hospitality, healing, community, and hope. Additional qualifications include demonstrated commitment to equity, dignity, and social justice; financial management and budget oversight, including government grants; and board relations and governance partnership skills. The client also expects high emotional intelligence, humility, and a deep commitment to direct service, along with leadership in expanding and diversifying revenue by strengthening individual and foundation donor relationships and reducing dependence on federal funding.
