The client is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to lead the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, a remote position based within 2 hours of the Appalachian Trail with national travel. The CEO will oversee a staff of 60+ and work closely with volunteers, trail clubs, and the Board to implement a strategic plan focused on stewardship, education, and advocacy for the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Responsibilities include fundraising, external relations, operational and financial stewardship, and partnership with the Board of Directors.
The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience leading complex organizations, a passion for the ATC mission, and a proven track record in fundraising and government relations. The CEO will be responsible for elevating the profile of the ATC, diversifying revenue streams, and strengthening relationships with federal and state partners. This role requires strong leadership skills, financial acumen, and the ability to navigate crisis situations effectively. The CEO will work closely with the Board to set direction, evaluate performance, and ensure strong governance.
