The client seeks a Chief Development Officer to provide vision, strategic leadership, and direction for effective fundraising operations in the US market in alignment with global strategy. Reporting through a senior leadership role, this executive will lead and manage a large Development Department responsible for substantial annual fundraising outcomes and will provide fundraising leadership that connects local priorities with the broader client movement.
The Chief Development Officer will advance the department’s work while centering the client’s global humanitarian mission and established culture, including impartiality, independence, neutrality, and a focus on humanitarian medical field work. The role includes fostering collaboration and mutual respect across fundraising counterparts internationally, balancing local and global priorities, and promoting shared responsibility in strengthening fundraising across the client community.
A core responsibility is strengthening the client’s capability and results in major and legacy giving, while sustaining strengths in broad-based direct response fundraising and digital philanthropy that support unrestricted giving and organizational independence. The CDO is expected to develop and execute a clearly articulated departmental strategy aligned to organizational priorities, promote a culture of mission-focused philanthropy, and engage key stakeholders as partners in fundraising to support high-potential major and legacy initiatives, including maintaining staff retention and morale.
