The client seeks an experienced and collaborative Chief Development Officer to oversee all aspects of the Development Division and expand the organization’s fundraising efforts. This role will manage fundraising activities, special events, and trustee relations, while partnering with engaged trustees to identify and advance opportunities to support philanthropy. The Chief Development Officer will work to deepen and broaden engagement with current and prospective donors locally, nationally, and internationally.
As a member of the executive leadership team, the Chief Development Officer is expected to contribute to the organization’s strategies and help shape institutional decisions and priorities. The role will foster a culture of philanthropy and advance high standards of donor cultivation, stewardship, and people leadership. The position also requires an appreciation for the organization’s role in its community and an understanding of major issues affecting cultural and arts institutions, including changing demographics, access, technology, sustainability, and resource considerations.
The successful candidate will bring a minimum of 12 years of development experience with increasing responsibility, including at least eight years leading complex fundraising programs and campaigns. Qualifications include strong managerial, strategic planning, and motivational skills; a clear understanding of fundraising best practices; and demonstrated success in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship at the high-value level. The role also emphasizes the ability to build and improve an existing development program through analytical thinking and best practices, secure major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations, and effectively engage senior leaders and volunteers with credibility and sound judgment, while leading a collaborative and inclusive team.
