Description

The client is seeking an innovative Chief Communications and Marketing Officer (CCMO) to serve as a high-level strategist for integrated branding and communications. The CCMO will report to the Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff and will architect and execute a comprehensive strategy to elevate the institution’s identity across internal and external channels, ensuring that the university’s mission and strategy resonate with constituents. As a key member of the Vice Chancellor’s leadership team and the Chancellor’s Cabinet, the CCMO will provide executive leadership and act as the primary chief storyteller and brand steward.

The CCMO will proactively coordinate communications, public relations, media, and marketing to strengthen the institution’s image and messaging in alignment with its strategic plan. Working closely with senior leadership, the CCMO will define strategic priorities, identify new opportunities, and establish official institutional policies and style guidelines. This role provides leadership across marketing and community relations and involves collaboration with university stakeholders and colleagues to maintain a consistent, high-impact presence across local, state, and national audiences.

The CCMO should be an accomplished communications and marketing professional with progressive leadership experience in higher education, non-profit, or comparable settings. The role calls for expertise in developing sophisticated marketing communication strategies and in creating multi-channeled strategic communication, marketing, and public relations plans. Strong oral and written communication skills and proven experience serving as a trusted advisor to executive leadership are essential, along with demonstrated capability coordinating teams and resources to deliver data-informed strategies for diverse audiences, including experience working with interdisciplinary academic programs with high research output.
