Description

The client is seeking a Chief Commercial Officer to serve as the senior commercial and external-facing executive, leading an integrated scope across commercial strategy and external operations. This role is responsible for driving department commercial strategy and revenue growth, partnering on sponsorship and corporate partnerships, multimedia and licensing rights, and other commercial ventures. The Chief Commercial Officer will also direct brand, marketing, communications, and fan experience direction in alignment with enterprise priorities and ensure consistent commercial execution across the organization.

Key responsibilities include leading commercial and revenue-growth strategy, managing deal sourcing, structuring, and negotiation for major partnerships and rights agreements, and establishing measurable commercial performance targets supported by data and analytics. The role will ensure consistent brand messaging and a cohesive fan and stakeholder experience across digital, broadcast, and live event touchpoints, while aligning brand and marketing strategy and resource allocation with shared and central services to avoid duplication. The Chief Commercial Officer will coordinate communication protocols and timelines with external marketing partners, partner with athletics leadership to align commercial strategy with departmental mission and revenue goals, and manage budgets across commercial operations and external affairs functions.

The client will consider candidates with a bachelor’s degree, with an MBA or related advanced degree preferred. The role typically requires 10+ years of progressive experience in commercial leadership, marketing, or external affairs, preferably in collegiate athletics, professional sports, or related industries, including proven revenue generation and sponsorship/partnership execution. Strong executive presence and demonstrated ability to lead and align cross-functional teams are required, with experience coordinating across a separate corporate or commercial entity strongly preferred. The role will involve leading and developing a multidisciplinary team spanning commercial, marketing, communications, and fan experience, and may include daily direction for assigned sport programming.
