The client seeks a Chief Advancement Officer to work closely with the Head of School, the Board of Trustees, and the executive leadership team to guide the organization through a period of growth and development. The role advances The client’s mission by securing diversified, sustained support for the organization and its related research and professional learning efforts. The CAO will build strong internal and external relationships, identify and pursue new opportunities, and ensure effective communication with donors, trustees, and the wider community.
The CAO leads development, alumni relations, marketing, and communications initiatives, serving as the organization’s lead fundraiser and advancement strategist. The role oversees an approximately 20-person advancement team, including senior leaders responsible for development, marketing and communications, and related advancement support. The CAO reports to the Head of School and serves as a thought partner and member of the executive and senior leadership groups, contributing actively to the organization’s culture and community engagement.
Successful candidates will have a demonstrated record of fundraising success, particularly with major and principal gifts, along with strong knowledge of advancement best practices. The role requires gravitas and the ability to engage philanthropic networks effectively, as well as the experience to manage, mentor, and motivate advancement staff, leadership, and volunteers. The CAO is expected to prioritize long-term relationship building with families and donors and support increased philanthropic giving to help fuel financial aid distribution and support sustainable enrollment.
