Description

The client is a collaborative healthcare system that unites multiple independent, community-focused hospitals serving rural communities. The organization shares resources, aligns strategic initiatives, and collaborates clinically and operationally to strengthen patient-centered care. This Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) / Controller role is part of The client’s Finance leadership team and is responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial position and the overall accounting function.

The CAO / Controller will supervise, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate accounting activity, including general accounting, fixed assets, and fund accounting. The role leads operations of the corporate finance department by standardizing processes, strengthening the internal control environment, overseeing the monthly financial close, and ensuring timely monthly reconciliations to help safeguard assets. The CAO / Controller also supports the annual financial audit, coordinating with internal and external auditors, and ensures financial statements are presented in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent business administration, along with a minimum of five years of managerial experience and advanced GAAP knowledge, including the ability to research complex accounting issues and standards. The role is expected to work with internal and external auditors and to demonstrate knowledge of ERP systems and financial reporting; CPA and MBA may be preferred. Preferred experience may include ERP and healthcare-related revenue cycle exposure, and candidates should bring leadership experience, comfort in a complex matrixed organization, strong analytical and operational problem-solving skills, and the ability to partner effectively with executive leadership, physicians, and other key stakeholders while driving organizational change.
