The client is seeking a dedicated Chief Accountant to join a retail organization in Nicosia. The role will oversee the accounting department’s day-to-day operations, ensuring the accuracy of financial data and compliance with tax and employer obligations. The Chief Accountant will also manage cash flow activities, including payments, collections, and bank reconciliations, while supporting financial reporting to management through monthly and annual statements and reports.
Key responsibilities include monitoring and ensuring the correctness of accounting entries, managing supplier obligations and related agreements, and submitting VAT, contributions, and other tax/employer returns. The role will support proper implementation of applicable Cypriot tax legislation and coordinate with external auditors, banks, and government agencies. The Chief Accountant will supervise payroll processes for hourly staff based on operational demand and contribute to costing activities related to cleaning projects and services, while maintaining organized, archived, and controlled financial documentation.
Candidates are expected to have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, or a related field and typically 3–5 years of experience in a similar or senior accounting position. The role requires excellent knowledge of Cypriot tax legislation and employer obligations, very good proficiency with accounting programs (preferably SAP) and MS Excel, and the ability to organize and manage a high volume of transactions. Strong attention to detail, responsibility, consistency, and the ability to work under pressure while meeting deadlines are essential, along with effective communication and collaboration with operational departments and staff.
