The client is seeking a Chief to lead the Division of Basic and Clinical Immunology. The division supports basic, clinical, and translational research and aims to advance immunology through discoveries in areas such as immune effects of environmental toxins, vaccine development, and rare immunodeficiency disorders. The Chief will also help fulfill the division’s mission to train scientists and clinicians, recruit and develop faculty, and support high-quality patient care.
The client will prioritize diversification of clinical practice, program development, and research across basic and clinical immunology, including specialized care and research related to allergy and asthma. The ideal candidate is an extramurally funded clinician-scientist with a distinguished record of scholarly activity, strong leadership skills, and the ability to develop robust clinical practices. The Chief will report to the Chair of Medicine at the School of Medicine and will oversee the division’s management and administrative and operational processes supporting research, education, and clinical missions.
Required qualifications include an MD or MD/PhD (or equivalent), fellowship training in immunology, board certification by the ABAI, and eligibility for or current possession of a medical license in California, along with meeting appointment requirements at the Associate Professor or Professor rank. The role also emphasizes educator and mentor qualities, a strong peer-reviewed publication record and research funding history, vision for enhancing clinical and academic components, and demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion with an inclusive culture. Preferred attributes include national stature with extramurally funded research, evidence of promoting teaching and scholarship, a reputation for building a clinically strong program, and a successful track record in recruiting and developing faculty, trainees, and students, supported by strong interpersonal skills.
