Trustee role with experience across disability, health and social care, and housing and/or property and wider board governance. The client is seeking a small number of potential trustees as part of board renewal through 2026/7. The successful trustee will help inform future property strategy and support diversity and inclusion for people with disabilities.
General trustee duties include complying with the client’s governing document, ensuring the charity is aligned with its charitable purpose for the public benefit, acting in the best interests of the charity, and exercising reasonable care and skill. Responsibilities include contributing to strategic direction, providing oversight and input to strategy formulation, and supporting policy and governance formation and implementation as required. Trustees are encouraged to participate in occasional events, training, and seminars, as well as quality and safety board walk-rounds.
Desired skills include knowledge of board competencies such as governance and strategic oversight, including familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks, governance standards, fiduciary duties, and the ability to support long-term planning and risk management. Experience or insight related to disability-inclusive housing is valued, including understanding the lived experiences, rights, and housing needs of people with disabilities, accessibility requirements, support services, and safeguarding responsibilities, along with a tenant-centric approach that promotes independence and community integration. Asset management and property maintenance knowledge is also desirable, including requirements for property and asset management and tenancy management standards, planning for long-term sustainability of housing stock in a cost-effective manner, and familiarity with planned maintenance.
