Description

The client is a charity that teaches first aid and CPR to young people who may be at risk of harm from violent crime and/or drug use. The client delivers in-person sessions with youth groups and young offenders, supported by volunteers including medical students and resident doctors. Board members may attend teaching sessions, while teaching delivery is handled by volunteers; board activities are carried out remotely with board meetings typically scheduled on Tuesday evenings or Saturday mornings.

This recruitment opportunity is for a trustee Secretary to join The client for a trial period of two months. During this time, the current Secretary will provide a handover of responsibilities and role training. At the two-month point, the candidate will be formally appointed to the Secretary role, subject to successful integration and participation in board activities. The Secretary will organise monthly Board of Trustees meetings, including giving notice of changes to meetings, attending to take attendance, recording minutes, and circulating prior minutes before meetings.

The Secretary is expected to be an active participant in Board meetings and to support governance responsibilities on a remote/Irish-time schedule. Essential attributes include experience as a charity sector secretary (ideally), enthusiasm for working with young people, willingness to undergo Garda vetting with no relevant criminal record, and the ability to commit approximately 4–6 hours per month. Desirable attributes include strong computer literacy for a remote role, governance and policy experience in a charity setting, interest and experience related to youth and safeguarding, involvement in volunteer training and development, and experience with charity finance management and oversight. Applications that bring relevant governance, child protection, legal, or medical experience may be considered, with motivation and energy emphasized.
