The client is seeking a Chairperson of the Board of Directors on a voluntary basis to provide leadership and help guide the organisation into the future. The Chairperson will work in partnership with the Project Coordinator and staff team to support the organisation’s mission and strategic objectives, with a strong commitment to social justice and community development. The role involves leading board governance, facilitating effective decision-making, and representing the organisation as needed.
Key responsibilities include providing leadership to the board and facilitating board meetings, contributing to the strategic direction and formulation of strategy, and ensuring compliance with governing documents, relevant legislation, and best-practice governance. The Chairperson will oversee the effective use of organisational resources to deliver strategic objectives, collaborate with the Project Coordinator and staff to achieve organisational goals, and engage with key stakeholders. The role also includes financial oversight and responsibility for monitoring financial operations with strategic insight.
Applicants should bring strong leadership and strategic vision, governance and compliance experience, clear communication skills, empathy and sensitivity, and the ability to make timely decisions with thorough follow-up. Previous board experience is required, ideally with experience as a board or committee chair. Voluntary-sector experience in Ireland is welcomed but not essential, and additional skills such as legal, HR, community development, or change management are desirable. The Chairperson is expected to attend board meetings, which currently occur 4 to 6 times per year with quarterly in-person sessions and online meetings, and a project management and finance sub-committee is expected to be established to report to the board.
