Description

The client is a charity that delivers in-person first aid and CPR education to young people who may be at risk of harm related to violent crime and/or drug use. Teaching sessions are conducted with youth groups and individuals in youth or offender settings, supported by volunteers. Board members may attend teaching sessions, and the role focuses on governance and leadership rather than delivering teaching themselves.

The client seeks an appropriate candidate to join as a trustee for a trial period of four months, with handover, responsibility training, and support provided by the current chairperson. At the end of the trial period, the candidate will be appointed chairperson, subject to successful integration and active participation in board activities. Key responsibilities include chairing monthly online board meetings, setting and managing the meeting agenda, supporting the achievement of the charity’s goals, and maintaining good governance practices to support the long-term sustainability of the board and charity.

The client expects the chairperson to be an active participant in board meetings and welcomes applicants with governance, child protection, legal, or medical experience, prioritizing motivated and energetic individuals committed to the charity’s mission. Essential attributes include leadership experience (ideally within the charity sector), enthusiasm for working with young people, agreement to undergo Garda Vetting with no relevant criminal record, and availability of approximately four to six hours per month for chairperson and charity duties. Desired attributes include strong computer literacy for remote coordination and familiarity with governance, safeguarding, volunteer development, and charity finance oversight.
