Description

The client is seeking a Chairperson for the Canal Communities Local Drug and Alcohol Task Force (CCLDATF), covering the Bluebell, Inchicore, and Rialto areas. This is a voluntary, non-salaried role with a three-year term, and expenses incurred for travel and phone calls are reimbursed in line with public financial regulations. The chair is expected to commit the equivalent of about two working days per month, including attendance at relevant meetings and national engagement.

Key duties include chairing the monthly CCLDATF EGM and Board meetings (with a mix of in-person and online attendance), and attending monthly finance and Chairpersons Network meetings (online). The role also involves working with the CCLDATF Coordinator to review tasks and needs, attending periodic meetings with CCLDATF employees, and participating in bi-annual meetings with the HSE. The Chairperson may be invited to attend additional meetings or events with stakeholders and community partners, including those focused on health and related public policy.

The Chairperson will oversee the familiarisation and ongoing review of the task force’s objectives, membership composition, action plan, and Strategic Plan, and ensure alignment with national goals and objectives through engagement with relevant materials from public bodies and funders. Responsibilities include supporting effective strategic and operational planning and implementation of the agreed work programme within agreed timeframes, identifying and pursuing funding and development opportunities consistent with the Strategic Plan, and signing off on budget allocations with the Coordinator. The Chairperson will also facilitate governance by chairing a working group that functions as the management committee, support the Coordinator and Violence Intervention Manager through guidance and oversight, and work closely with board and partner representatives to communicate policy outcomes, brief members after national meetings, and promote effective collaboration and decision-making.
